Embattled Raiders coach Tom Cable said Wednesday that he and managing general partner Al Davis discussed the allegations made in an ESPN story about Cable having a history of physically abusing women.
The meeting came on the heels of the Raiders' issuing a statement Monday afternoon saying a "serious evaluation" of the matter would be undertaken.
"Al and I have spoken," Cable said. "What we talked about is between us, and we'll keep it that way." He also said he expects to be the Raiders coach the second half of the season. However, he did not receive an assurance from Davis during their discussion.
"We didn't even talk about that," Cable said. "We talked about, like you're supposed to, the team, personnel moves, the second half and upcoming (games). Those are not issues for us to discuss. There's no need to right now. Right now, it's about trying to turn it around and get us on track." A league spokesman said the NFL is investigating the matter of Cable being accused by his first wife and a recent girlfriend of physical abuse. Cable said in a statement Sunday that he slapped his first wife more than 20 years ago but has not touched a woman in an appropriate manner ever since.
_Samson Satele will be the starting center once Robert Gallery returns at left guard, Cable said. Gallery is expected back for Oakland's next game, Nov. 15 against the Kansas City Chiefs.
The Raiders traded for Satele in the offseason and expected him to be their starting center. However, he lost the job to Chris Morris because of how long it took him to recover from offseason shoulder surgery and learn Oakland's zone-blocking scheme, Cable said.
"I got this offense down," Satele said. "Now I can just go and run with it ... and it's my job to lose, I guess." Morris has played at left guard the past four games, with Satele taking over at center. Gallery has missed the past six games with a broken left leg.
_The Raiders are tied for 30th (Cleveland Browns) in scoring at an average of 9.8 points. The St. Louis Rams are last at 9.6. The Raiders are on pace for 156 points, or 12 fewer than the franchise-low 168 they scored in 2006.
_Wide receiver Chaz Schilens (foot), running back Darren McFadden (knee) and Gallery practiced without experiencing any setbacks. McFadden is expected to play against the Chiefs. Schilens' status remains questionable.
_Cornerback Chris Johnson (groin), defensive tackle Gerard Warren (toe), tight end Tony Stewart (chest), right offensive tackle Cornell Green (calf) and receiver/kick returner Nick Miller (shin) did not practice. Green said he will practice "full go" Monday.
_Linebacker Jon Alston practiced despite suffering a concussion against the San Diego Chargers on Sunday, his second in three weeks. Cable said Alston passed the required tests to make sure he was healthy enough for contact.
_Defensive end Greg Ellis underwent arthroscopic surgery on his left knee Wednesday, Cable said. His status is questionable for the Chiefs game.
_The Raiders waived guard Brandon Rodd from the practice squad and signed receiver Shaun Bodiford to take Rodd's place. Bodiford, 27, appeared in 12 games for the Green Bay Packers and Detroit Lions in 2006 and '07. He caught one pass for 13 yards.
