RIVER ROUGE, Mich. — A Detroit man has been charged in the theft of nearly $1 million in money intended for employee prescription drug coverage in the city of River Rouge.

Michigan Attorney General Mike Cox says in a release that 45-year-old Adam Korejsza was arraigned Friday in River Rouge on racketeering, embezzlement and tax evasion charges. Bond was set at $1 million.

His arrest follows a joint investigation by Cox's office and the state police.

Between January 2007 and September 2008 more than $50,000 per month was paid from insurance premiums. Cox says Korejsza was under contract to manage the program.

A preliminary examination has been set for Nov. 13.

The Associated Press could not determine Friday afternoon if Korejsza had an attorney.
