Triple A stations were created as an alternative to the hit-making monoliths of consolidated commercial radio. But they've also been responsible for pushing artists who started in AAA to the mainstream. Lorde and her massive hit "Royals" started in AAA. Now, the stations are facing pressure to pick tomorrow's hits and that's led to some questionable practices.
